Happy spring!! How have you celebrated? Patio weather and rosé? Make sure you have your spring wardrobe ready - I talked about trends for this season, last time! Catch up here. Today's post is just in time for the change of weather...we are talking wedding flowers! To see my other post wedding blog pieces, read the 18 things I'm glad I did at my wedding and Wedding makeup ft. Grand Slam Glam. To see all my other wedding features, check out the wedding tab.
I used Lizzie Bee's Flower Shoppe for my wedding last October, but that wasn't the first time I had used her flowers...She used to do my bouquets for my high school dances! (I graduated 2009, just to give you a little time reference) It has been amazing to see how far she has come and how much she has grown! She definitely deserves it. If you think her name sounds familiar, you might recognize Lizzie Bee's from this post.
I could talk for hours about why you should use Lizzie Bee's for your wedding and/or floral needs, but here's 3 reasons why I would recommend her to you AND why I would for sure use her again, if I had a do-over:
1) Creativity. Lizzie has such a great eye and was amazing to work with. You start by having a consultation and by giving all of the wedding details, like what you are thinking, the theme, vibe, number of tables, bridesmaids, etc...really anything you could need flowers for. I may be a planner, and I know some people know exactly what kind of flowers they want, but I didn't. I knew the "feel" of what I wanted, but not specifics. Lizzie took my thoughts and brought them to life with a mood board!
2) Trust. After Lizzie gave me my mood board, I was like yep, you got this. I trusted her entirely with my floral design and never for a second worried about them. There are so many little decisions to make and bigger things to worry about, I'm so glad flowers weren't an issue for me. She is really good about giving you what you want, and if it becomes unavailable, finding you something else. For example, I wanted peonies for all of the girls bouquets - there weren't a lot of good ones, since they were out of season, so she gave me similar flowers instead. I wanted ranunculus for the boutonnières - again, there weren't a lot of nice ones out there, so Nick got one, and the other guys had something else.
3) Beauty. I mean, HELLO. Can you say beautiful products?! She did all of my flowers for the event, and I couldn't have been happier. She also made me a flower crown for my rehearsal dinner. I will be doing a blog post on rehearsal dinners, but you can see my instagram of it here. Like I said, she is awesome at floral arrangements and I trusted her, so I didn't expect anything less; however, nonetheless, still stunned by their gorgeousness! I love all the whimsical trends, but didn't want it too crazy, since i wanted more classic and less trendy, and she hit the nail on the head!
Here's a list of everything I used Lizzie Bee's for. I hope it helps you in your wedding planning!
REHEARSAL DINNER. Flower Crown (I considered getting some for the dinner portion, but opted against it. A great idea, though!
WEDDING DAY.
Bride: Large White Bouquet (side note, traditionally speaking, the guy pays for your bouquet and the flowers for his family and groomsmen!)
Bridesmaids: Medium Burgundy Bouquet
House Party: Posy (small) Burgundy Bouquet
Groom: White Ranunculus Boutonnière
Groomsmen: Burgundy Boutonnière
Ushers: Burgundy Boutonnière
Moms: Posy (small) Burgundy Bouquet
Dads: Burgundy Boutonnière
Immediate Family: Think grandparents, etc Nick and I had 3 total grandparents there, so we didn't have a lot. I honestly can't remember, but I think they they all chose Boutonnières. My mom's brother also had one. You can do anything from a posy, to a boutonnière, or corsage.
Flower Girl: My flower girl carried a kissing ball - it is what I carried a a flower girl! It is beautiful and you don't have to worry about picking up petals. I did not have a ring bearer, but he wold have also needed some sort of boutonnière.
Musicians: I had a harpist and a soloist. I let them decide what kind of flower they wanted, but chose between boutonnière, or corsage.
Officient: Burgundy Boutonnière
Sorority sisters: I didn't actually do this, but I read it somewhere and LOVED it. If you have a lot of sorority sisters, obviously not all of them can be in your wedding. Leave a basket of flowers (perhaps your sorority's flower) at the front, with a note that says to pin one on to show your connection/bond.
Ceremony: We put greenery on the walls, because that was the look we were going for. It lined the entryway and was the perfect backdrop for the ceremony.
Aisle: Don't forget if you want aisle decor. Some people do ribbons, bouquets at each aisle/row, etc. I honestly cannot remember what i did, but I had something there!
Mantles/Fireplace: My venue had several of these structures, so we topped them with greenery and candles. It was an easy add, that increased the texture and depth.
Dinner Tables: I wanted to have wine bottle center pieces, so that's what we did! We had 1 for the table number, 1 as a flower holder, and 1 with the bottom cut off, placed over a candle.
Head Table: You may or may not have a head table, but I did and loved it! We had greenery running through the entire thing (it was U shaped), and had medium bouquets placed there, as well.
Decor Tables: You know...the little tables that have everything from photos, to your guest book. They don't necessarily need flowers, but something should be on them flowers are just an easy add!
Exit: I know sparklers and such are all the rave, but I did olive leaves and loved it. It tied into my theme and looked very pretty. I also like the idea of throwing lavender. You also cannot go wrong with throwing rose petals.
Toss: I did the traditional bouquet throw and wanted to keep my original bouquet, so I had Lizzie make me a posy, to give away.
Cake: We didn't have traditional cake toppers- I just wanted simple greenery. Lizzie did that for me and placed it on my cake, upon arrival!
Doors: Most people put up wreaths or some kind of decor on the entrance - we did box wreaths.
SIDE NOTES.
Greenery: I wanted the "Green" look, which actually helped cut down on flower cost. Consider things you might want, that also might help you stay within budget.
Middle Aisle: I did have some little "something" that tied the middle aisle shut, so I was the first one to walk down it. It was a fun, yet special add.
Faux: I am all for real flowers - they are the best! However, sometimes you can supplement all of your floral needs with some faux plants. I'm not saying get tacky, fake flowers, but do it where you can get away with it! Some of my greenery was fake, simply because we found some that looked real, and no one would be getting super close to it, to notice. This also helped with budget. Don't overspend! It is so easy to do on those beautiful bouquets; )
Re-use: It is totally okay to re-use your girls' flowers! I used my bridesmaids' flowers on the head table, and my house party's flowers on high boy/bar tables.
Let me know if you have any flower questions or have any other ideas- I still have other wedding to help plan and assist with, so I'm always happy to share knowledge!
