Iāve been kinda teasing this post at you for a while now, but here it finally is! I was hoping to have everything 100% ready for ya before I posted (I donāt), but such is life. If we waited until we were 100% ready for everything, then most things probably wouldnāt happen!
Before I get into fall, I want to address a couple things I stopped using in my skincare routine, because they have coconut oil in them. I already discussed this regarding my makeup, here. I spoke about it on that blog post, but essentially there is nothing toxic about coconut oil, BUT it is pore clogging product and it makes me break out. I am no longer using Herbivore Botanicals Lapis Oil on my face -I am still putting it on my eczema though! Works like a charm. The other thing Iām not using is the Osea Malibu Atmosphere Protection cream, which makes me SO SAD. It was seriously the lightest moisturizer! Iām not sure if it made me break out specifically, but I just cut everything to be safe. I think ultimately, I had a really bad breakout and anything could make it flare up at that point.
First, Iām going to go through what Iām changing for fall, and then Iāll go through my entire routine. So here we go!
Okay so whatās going on with your skin, going into fall? Short and sweet, you need to exfoliate and make sure your moisturizer is ready for the weather. Chances are that you were in the sun a lot this summer and your skin is kind of dull. You know how trees shed their leaves in the fall? That kindaaa what your skin is doing with dead skin. You need to make exfoliating a priority, so this is the main thing to note with the season change. Exfoliation is important, because older cells take longer to slough off, which results in a dull appearance, but also they can pile up and block pores, which cause acne and other blemishes. #nothanks Hereās a couple of my favorite things for exfoliation and rejuvenation:
-One Love Organics Cleansing Charcoal Sponge -This is a super easy way to exfoliate! Just wet the sponge and youāre good to go! I have the charcoal one, but there is also a pink clay one.
-One Love Organics Brand New Day Microderma Scrub & Masque - I like to mix this in with the foaming cleanser at night and get a gentle scrub in. You can also make it mask!
-One Love Organics Love + Charcoal Masque - This is my ride or die mask. If I had to pick just one, this is what I would grab. It detoxifies and is gentle at the same time.
-Herbivore Botanicals Brighten Mask - This is probably my favorite mask for fall. It has papaya and pineapple enzymes, which exfoliate naturally, in addition to Brazilian White Tourmaline, which brightens and exfoliates as well. It leaves my skin SO SOFT and it smells amazing too!
-Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask - This is another good exfoliating mask. I like to wear this one when I need to multitask. You can leave it on for a while and it wonāt irritate your skin. It is my ultimate I feel pretty mask! The benefit of this resurfacing mask is that you can do it during the day. The Herbivore one listed above should only be done at night.
The other thing that you might consider changing for fall/winter, is your moisturizer. I have been using Biossance Gel Moisturizer and I like it, but sometimes it makes my face sting. I recently read reviews and some people mentioned the same thing, so I decided to see if I like something else better. Depending on where you live, you might need a heavier moisturizer. I just purchased the Ursa Major Golden Hour Recovery Cream and will let you know how I like it come winter! A couple that I also considered were Laurel Whole Plant Organics Transform Daily Balm, Josh Rosebrook Vital Balm Cream, and Indie Lee Squalane Facial Cream. Ultimately, it just came down to price and the fact that I had a Nordstrom note I could use. (haha) I was talking to my esthetician about this and she said that she didnāt think I really needed to go thicker because of where we live - that was a good thing about the gel moisturizerā¦not too heavy! I may end up having a night moisturizer (the heavier one) and morning moisturizer. We shall seeeee.
Hereās my current daily routine:
MORNING:
Tone: Primally Pure Everything Spray (get 10% off w/code ELLEMULENOS)
Serum: Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum OR Juice Beauty Antioxidant Serum (I really donāt know which I like better! Juice Beauty has a better rating on EWG, but Mad Hippie isnāt a bad rating. I like them both.)
Moisturizer: Biossance Squalane + Probiotic Gel Moisturizer (I am almost finished with my tub though and ordered Ursa Major Golden Hour Recovery Cream to try out next)
Sunscreen: Biossance SQUALANE + Mineral SPF 45
NIGHT:
Cleanse #1: One Love Organics Vitamin B Enzyme Cleanser
Cleanse #2: One Love Organics Easy Does it Foaming Cleanser
**exfoliate or mask-note if Iām masking, I will tone before and after. I tone before with Thayerās Rose Petal Witch Hazel.
Tone: Primally Pure Everything Spray (get 10% off w/code ELLEMULENOS)
Moisturizer: Biossance Squalane + Probiotic Gel Moisturizer (I am almost finished with my tub though and ordered Ursa Major Golden Hour Recovery Cream to try out next)
Side note- I stopped taking the oral medication from my dermatologist. I pepper in the topicals every so often, but am not doing it every day. I talked about these most recently here.
If you were hoping for a fall themed post with a bunch of cheesy (or should I say āsquashyā type products lol), you wonāt find that here. Everything is Cruelty-Free and on the Non Toxic spectrum. I will say my holy grail oil cleanser does have pumpkin in it so thereās that;) Pumpkin is full of anti-oxidatns so make sure you do consume some and even get some on your face- just make sure thereās not too much sugar involved!
