I shot the Senreve Alunna bag over a month ago and meant to get this review up sooner, but life happens. It actually couldn’t come at a better time for you though, as Senreve is currently selling their gently used inventory up to 50% off and there are some Alunna’s along with some other best selling styles to choose from. The perfect time to invest in a bag! While you’re at it, don’t forget you can use discount code ELLEMULENOS to save even more and get $50 off your Senreve purchase.

Senreve Alunna Bag (the color is forest, this is the full-size, not the mini) | Everlane Japanese GoWeave Slip Dress (wearing a size 6 so it would fit over my hips - a 4 was too tight in this style and I wanted it more drapey. I wear a 4 in most other Everlane dresses.) | Madewell Trucker Denim Jacket (c/o, wearing a S) | American Eagle Aerie Sunglasses | Cariuma Sneakers (c/o)

ALUNNA SPECIFICS

Senreve first launched the Alunna bag last fall (2020) and it immediately had me wrapped around its chic little finger. It’s basically the stylish little sister of the ever popular key style - the Maestra. Before I go comparing it to existing bags, let’s talk about the bag and its specifics! There is the standard Alunna which is what I have and then a mini version that as you can see, is very similar to the standard.

COMPARING IT TO THE MINI MAESTRA

If you are looking to see what makes the Alunna special, for me it is the shape. I love how it isn’t clunky, but can still hold quite a bit. I holds more than my Aria belt bag, but less than my Mini Maestra. If you are looking for something to compare it to, the Mini Maestra is the closest item to it in my opinion. It is a tad wider and chunkier, whereas the Alunna is skinnier. The Mini Maestra is a bag I could have with me all day and fit most of what I need in it. For reference, it can hold up to 10.5” tablet, but a lot of other things too! The Alunna is more of a bag that I would take out for nice dinner or night out. It’s sleek, whereas I’d explain the Mini Maestra as more functional. Don’t get me wrong - it’s still chic too! Just not as chic as the Alunna. Though you can wear them all the same ways (shoulder bag, crossbody, backpack, top handle), I never really use my Mini Maestra as a crossbody, as it is a little chunky too for that. I do love wearing my Alunna as crossbody, so major plus for the Alunna.

If you honestly can’t decide which bag to get, I’d ask what service are you expecting of it? Is it a bag that is more for a night out or the long day’s haul? What’s your purse style type? Meaning do you shove as much as you can in there and pray it closes? If you need the space, go with the Mini Maestra. If you are looking for more of a wear-out kind of piece, go with the Alunna. There is only a $50 price difference, so the price doesn’t really make or break the decision.

MY THOUGHTS ON THE ALUNNA

I really like the bag. Senreve knocked it out of the park with the design, as I truly do love it. It has all the quality and versatility I’m used to in a Maestra, but I feel like I can wear it to a party or a fancy evening, whereas I wouldn’t necessarily do that with my Mini Maestra. My go-to evening purse is typically my Aria with the chain strap but because this has more space, I may reach for the Alunna more instead now! I’m a big fan of the crossbody style and like I mentioned above, I like that I actually want to wear the Alunna across my body, as I typically don’t like to wear my Maestras that way.

I also am really happy with this color. It is “forest”, so it is the prettiest deep green that is a great alternative to black. I use my black Aria a lot, so I wanted to switch it up, but still wanted something that would go with most things. Dark green is a great neutral that actually feels more elevated than black too! It still lends itself to the black family of colors, so it is something you may not have picked up on unless I mentioned it. For reference, the dress I’m wearing is black.

Now to the question of is it worth it? I think all the quality is there, but I’m not sure I needed it AND my Mini Maestra. But I guess do I need any bags?! Hah! I do believe they serve different purposes, but I’m not going to a lot of “fancy events” these days, so I’m not sure how much wear I’ll get out of it. It all comes down to what purpose is this bag serving for you! I for sure recommend getting the regular Alunna over the Mini Alunna, just because it is a tad bit bigger and only a $70 difference. If you had to ask me which to pick between the Alunna and Mini Maestra, I would probably pick the Mini Maestra, but it all depends on the event and situation! I guess I do need both ;)

My only disappointment with the Alunna, wasn’t with the bag at all… it was the statement strap. It’s super cute and I really wanted it to work, but ended up returning it. Picture shown in the video below. The green leathers just didn’t match up. When I pay $100+ for something, I’m expecting it to at least match! Now anytime a batch of leather, fabric, etc is made, there are variances which is why most brands try to use from the same batch. While it’s possible to do that for the bags (and I’ve never had an issue with Senreve in this regard), it isn’t really feasible for statement straps that are sold separately, to be of the same batch. I also didn’t really like the green threading used the strap itself and felt like it made it look less elevated. If you want the shoulder strap, I think you should go for a basic color like black. I haven’t seen that in person to compare, but am guessing it is easier to match and looks better!

Overall I would recommend the Alunna and am loving the addition to my Senreve collection!

Be sure to check out Senreve’s Handbag Revival Sale that is going on right now. You can shop gently used handbags that were used in photoshoots or as samples in showrooms for up to 50% off! They do it around Earth Day every year and the sale lasts until the stock is gone, so check it out fast! This is actually how I purchased my first bag and I couldn’t find any scuff mark or anything on it. Right now I have my eye on the Aria belt bag so I can update my older version, but I just got the doctor bag in dolce butterscotch and am LOVING it!!

Don’t forget you can use code ELLEMULENOS for $50 off your Senreve purchase as well. Happy shopping! Let me know if you have any questions I can help answer for you by dropping it as a comment below or shooting me an email at Lauren@LMentsOFStyle.com.
