Several years ago I created a series called The Art of Versatility. I would pick an item of clothing and style it 3 different ways. The series has since been put to rest, but I’m still a big believer in choosing items you cans style for most anything and get a lot of wear out of. Visualizing how many ways you can wear something before you buy it is imperative to shopping smarter.
Keep reading for how I am styling this summer sundress for the last days of winter as we transition into spring. Meanwhile, you can shop Masai Copenhagen with a discount by using my code ELLEMULENOS10BAO.

It is still rather chilly in Los Angeles, which makes sense because winter is still thriving. We’ve had a lot of rain and even snow in some areas. So, while it is hard to think about Spring, we know it is coming. I doubt you’re in the mood to buy sweaters unless it is a really good sample sale, but it may feel to soon to reach for spring dresses. I say grab the dress, but consider how you could style before their traditional time of wear. Personally, I love to find a good long sleeve dress like this one, because it is so good for weather transitioning. LA does get hot around July; but, depending on where you are, it could still be a little breezy, especially by the water. Long sleeves help combat that, plus they help me protect my skin as I sunburn fairly easily.

All that to say, this dress checked a lot of boxes for me. The drop waist is flattering and comfortable. I like the skin it shows on my chest, as it helps me feel less frumpy / less like I’m wearing a sack. The pattern also leant itself to easily styling for different seasons and soirees.
Of the ways I styled it, I think the sneakers with the dress look is probably my go-to right now. It casual like SoCal and is practical for running around with my twins. I do love a good edgy look though, which is why I adore my docs. When purchasing an item of clothing, I consider what neutrals I can pair with it. For this dress specifically, I like the black is included in the pattern which makes it an easy accessory add. The pumps are probably the least likely to be worn by my out of these 3 options, just because of my day-to-day; however, I wanted to provide them as an option to dress up the look. A loose sundress is naturally more casual, but you can easily tailor it to your needs with a heel or wedge. Don’t forget that! Also, I think the dress would pair nicely with a long line black blazer too if you wanted to wear it into the workplace. The options really are endless!

I hadn’t heard of the brand Masai Copenhagen until recently. I worked with them on this ad, but decided to share the look on a blog post as well. They are a female founded clothing brand that thoughtfully designs their clothing from the fabric they use (they are big on sustainable viscose), to the practices they implement (they consider effects on community and habitat) , and even try to help you find what works for you (by including most flatter cuts and callouts for easy wardrobe decisions.)
I’ve been feeling a bit out of touch with fashion and it feels good to share it again! Ultimately this dress will likely get styled with slip on sandals, which is totally cute and absolutely perfect. I wrote this just to encourage you not to limit your wardrobe… or yourself. Considering versatility is so key to shopping smart. I know my kids grow out of things quickly, but I’m already considering versatile styles for them. How far can I stretch this item?! It’s a really fun game! Maybe even more so than shopping. Happy styling! XOXO
