I probably should have saved this post for last in my "Where to eat in Dallas" series, because it is easily my favorite area. (New here? Here's my guides for Knox/Henderson, Downtown Dallas, and Deep Ellum).
I shot this look this past weekend, while on a date with my boyfriend. If you follow along on Instagram or SnapChat (ElleSpann), you already knew that though;) Can you tell that I'm super excited for fall? This dress is an awesome transition piece for a Texas girl, because it's a breathable cotton. You can wear it in the not-so-cool fall, and then pair it with tights, riding boots, and a blazer, when the temperature decides to drop.
If you're not familiar with Dallas or have no clue what the Bishop Arts District is, it is a quaint little area in Oak Cliff. (that's my hood). Not only are there restaurants, but antique, clothing, and flower shops, as well as well as several art galleries and photo opps. (Remember this post? It was shot here and I also listed the Bishop Arts area as one of my top places to take pictures here) So, in no particular order, here are my top picks for the Bishop Arts Distric:
Boulevardier. This is where we had our date, so I thought I'd start here. It's a tiny little Parisian place, so be sure to get a reservation or come in time to snag a cocktail table. Come here for a date night or a classy brunch. What to Order: The steak tartare for an appetizer and the lamb neck as the main course. The ratatouille will actually make you enjoy vegetables!
Dude Sweet Chocolate. We always come here whenever we are in the BA District. Though there are several other locations, this is our favorite. Plus, the head chef usually comes to this one. Come here with anyone who likes chocolate. They give free samples of everything, so you can taste before you buy! What to Order: They have seasonal chocolates, but they do keep some around all the time. The Chocolate Salami and Hanoi Fudge are some of my longstanding favorites!
Lucia. The best Italian place in Dallas, hands down. You need to make your reservation well in advance, because they are always booked! You can sometimes get lucky and score a dropped reservation or one of the coveted bar seats. Come here for a fancy date night or anniversary. What to Order: The menu changes seasonally and it written in Italian style, so you'll have to rely on your waiter to get you familiar with it. You can never go wrong with any of their duck offerings or traditional spaghetti's.
Hattie’s. The cutest Southern, American bistro in town! Come here for a fun date night or as an amazing addition to your Sunday brunch lineup. Be sure to make reservations! What to Order: Their crab cake is yummy, but their tomato bisque is to die for! It comes with little grilled cheese croutons floating in it. The goat cheese and herb chicken breast is one of my favorite dinner entrees.
Tillman’s Roadhouse. Tillman's makes you feel right at home, with an urban flair. They bring out popcorn instead of bread, so you don't fill up on it! Come here for a good dinner outing. What to Order: The goat cheese tater tots and the tableside s'mores. I don't care if you don't order anything else, at least get these two items!
Lockhart’s Smokehouse. Arguably the best bbq in Dallas, in my opinion. Come here with your guys or to impress your dad. What to Order: The brisket deviled eggs, macaroni and cheese, sausage, and brisket. You'll be eating happily for weeks!
Oddfellow’s. BA's token brunch place, that serves breakfast all day long. Come here for a patio brunch spot with your girls, but be sure to get your name on the list ahead of time. What to Order: Some people say it's their macaroni and cheese, but I personally love their French toast!
Eno’s Pizza Tavern. If I'm not making pizza at home, I'm usually getting it from Eno's. Come here and sit on their second floor, for a look above the city! What to Order: Their truffle bread and black garlic pizza.
Bishop Cider Co. Not in the mood for food, but could use something to wet your whistle? Bishop Cider Co. is relatively new to the area and will make you want to drink cider year-round! Come here with your couple friends. It's yummy enough for girls to enjoy it, but rustic enough, that you won't lose your man card by entering. What to Order: The flight. Share it with you girlfriend or S/O.
Dallas Grilled Cheese Co. Grilled cheeses aren't just on the kids menu anymore and I am so glad! Come here with your friends who have kids or to make your inner kid happy. What to Order: The Favorite, a Parmesan-crusted grilled sourdough with American, aged Cheddar and Gruyére cheeses, crumbled bacon, Dijon mustard. You can't go wrong with it :)
Emporium Pies. If you just want dessert, this is your place. Even if you don't like pie, you can find something you will like here. Come here for an afternoon catch up with your bff or just get a whole pie to go! What to Order: I'm a purist, so I'll always steer you toward their chocolate pie.
Smoke. If you want good meat that isn't from a strictly bbq joint, this is your go-to. It's kind of like meat, classed up! Come here with you bacon lovers. They serve other meals, but brunch is my favorite. What to Order: The Hungry Bear! If you don't like meat, but have been dragged along, get the blueberry pancakes. Oh, and a side of bacon to-go;)
Jonathan's Oak Cliff. One of the busiest breakfast places in town, Jonathan's is a classic place, with a down-home feel. Come here with your those who are picky. I think everyone can find something on the menu here! What to Order: The Jolly Rancher, if they are serving it. They will often rotate their menu, but their Chicken and Waffles is legendary, so they usually serve that all the time.
.*I've never been to Stock and Barrel or C. Senor, but have heard good things!
