One of my favorite memories ever is when we almost got snowed in, in South Lake Tahoe. That being said, we made it out and I never spent the night in the beautiful area. I had also never been in summer (only winter)ā€¦ until now! Nick, the twins, and I were hosted by RnR Vacation Rentals last month, so I wanted to recap our trip and share some fun things to do do, the amazing setup to work remotely, and why chose RnR.

Keep reading for inside intel in the house we stayed at and more about the South Lake Tahoe area.

From west Los Angeles to South Lake Tahoe, it is about an 8 hour drive give or take. If youā€™d rather fly, it is about 1.5 hour drive from the Reno-Tahoe International Airport or about a 2.5 hour drive from the Sacramento International Airport. Since we were driving, we decided to make a whole trip of it and not head straight to Tahoe. We drove to Napa first, spent the day there, then made the 3 (ish) hour drive from the valley to South Lake Tahoe. It was a great (and fun) way to split up our driving days! For reference, we drove into Fairfield on Saturday evening and headed to Tahoe on Sunday after an afternoon in wine country. On the way in we stopped at a grocery store, as we planned to prepare most meals on property.

While I wish this was an actual vacation as in Nick and I wish we didnā€™t have to work, it was actually quite nice. We didnā€™t get to do many ā€œTahoeā€ things other than eating Base Camp Pizza, but it was a great change of scenery that was perfectly equipped for our needs. After we put the twins down for their bedtime each evening, we made dinner, enjoyed it amongst the trees, on the patio deck and then took an evening dip in the hot tub.

I kind of got ahead of myself listing all of the homeā€™s amenities, but hot tubs, proximity to local favorites, and a remote, but not too-remote oasis are things you can expect when renting from RnR Vacation Rentals. They function as a normal rental company, with a not-so-normal agenda. All of their properties are local to South Lake Tahoe. That being said, they are able to focus on a smaller number of higher quality homes, so their details from cleanliness to amenities are top notch. A benefit of renting through RnR is that they have Tahoeā€™s best interest in mind. They work to conserve the area by choosing certain products and utilizing reusables, so that generations to come can enjoy the area. On top of that, the owners Stu and Diana have lived in the area for years, so they can truly give you localā€™s advice for what to do and see.

This was the exact home we stayed in and it was perfect for us 4! The twins slept in their cribs in the main room with us, but the home could have slept 10 other adults comfortably. In fact, most of RNRā€™s rentals can house a good amount of people. In my experience searching anything past 8 people is hard to come by, but RNR has a ton. The kitchen was a giant step up from our tiny one in LA and I cried (happy tears) over the laundry room. Needless to say we found ourselves at our new home away from home! Nick and I could both take meetings while the twins napped, because there were several desk set-ups (plus high speed internet and wifi), so we werenā€™t in each otherā€™s hair or meetings. With the ability to rent short term, in addition to up to 30 or even 90 days, if youā€™re looking for a place to getaway while working remotely, staying in Tahoe with RnR is your answer.

Our property was in a quiet residential neighborhood, just minutes away from El Dorado Beach and the Shops at Heavenly Village. We took daily walks around the neighborhood and to the waterfront at the end of the nearby main road. RnR features more homes like the one we stayed in, but also has houses where you can walk to ski lifts, be on the lakeshore, or in coveted areas like The Tahoe Keys or Lakeland Village.

My exact hat is by The Lady and The Sailor, but this is a similar one.

As I said, unfortunately, we mostly worked during our time in Tahoe, but I do want to come back to enjoy it more both in the warmer and colder months. Iā€™m not much of a skier, but I would at least do an half day to say I tried. Our home in particular had a boot drier, which is so clutch! As far as summer friendly activities, each morning Nick would walk to Free Bird Cafe for coffee. We also walked around El Dorado Beach and Heavenly, but other than that were were homebodies. We canā€™t complain though, because it truly felt like a home - both welcoming and warm.

We had such a good time in Tahoe and will remember it for ages. When we first started traveling with the twins (they have been on 12 flights now), so many people said donā€™t bother, they wonā€™t remember. But Nick and I will and their flights are free, as is their ability to ride with us. We canā€™t wait to visit again and check out new things. Hopefully we will take the twins on a hike or two and a dip in the lake. They donā€™t really like the ocean, but do like pools, so hereā€™s to hoping they like lake water!

Whether you are looking for somewhere new to work, a place to take a family vacation, or a romantic getaway, RnR Vacation Rentals has something for you. Check them out next time you are looking for a place to stay or planning a trip to South Lake Tahoe. Summer (and winter) fun awaits!

Our only regret is that we didnā€™t see a bear. Thereā€™s always next time!
